Official Receivers

Official Receivers are appointed by the Attorney-General pursuant to section 16 of the Bankruptcy Act 1966.

Official Receivers have various powers and functions under the Bankruptcy Act, including:

  • assessing and registering bankruptcy and personal insolvency agreement applications from debtors
  • registering court-ordered insolvency administrations
  • issuing bankruptcy notices on the application of creditors
  • issuing statutory notices to obtain information and/or recover monies on the application of trustees administering insolvent estates
  • administering the debt agreement provisions of the Bankruptcy Act, including assessing debt agreement proposals against statutory requirements and conducting the voting process on proposals, and
  • maintaining the National Personal Insolvency Index, the public register of personal insolvencies

The current Official Receiver is Andrew Robinson who is National Manager Business Services managing the Official Trustee and Official Receiver Debt Agreement and Registry functions.
