The Insolvency and Trustee Service Australia ("ITSA") is responsible for maintaining an index containing information on proceedings and administrations under the Bankruptcy Act, 1966.
This index is called the National Personal Insolvency Index ("NPII").
. | |
Any person can, for a fee, gain access to the information maintained on this index through authorised Index Search Agents.
Contact details of Index Search Agents are provided below. The fees charged by the different providers can vary.
Anyone may conduct a search of the NPII. When you are not certain about the spelling of a debtor’s given name/s, surname or both you should use the ‘%’ symbol as a wildcard character. ITSA’s Index Search Agents will alert users to the wildcard feature and how to use it. Please note that if there is a very large number of potential matches returned, you may be required to further narrow your search criteria before a list is provided. For more information about the NPII, searches and documents available for inspection, refer to ITSA’s fact sheet: Searching the Public Record.
If you are an Australian, State or Territory Government agency requiring a search for law enforcement or related purposes, please contact your local ITSA office. A fee exemption may apply.
